The President of the Republic accepted the proposals of the Prime Minister for the discharge of members of the Government and the appointment of new members, and set the date for their being empowered in office.
Following is the text of the communiqué of the Presidency of the Republic concerning this matter:
"In the terms of item h) of article No. 133 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic accepted the proposal presented by the Prime Minister for the discharge, at their request, of the duties of Prof. Doctor António Fernando Correia de Campos and of Prof. Doctor Maria Isabel da Silva Pires de Lima as Ministers for Health and for Culture, respectively and also that of Secretary of State for Taxation Matters, Dr. João José Amaral Tomaz.
In the terms of the same constitutional provision, the President of the Republic accepted the proposal presented by the Prime Minister for the appointment of Dr. Ana Maria Teodoro Jorge as Minister for Health, of Dr. José António Pinto Ribeiro as Minister for Culture, and of Dr. Carlos Manuel Baptista Lobo as Secretary of State for Taxation Matters.
The President of the Republic will empower in office the new members of the Government on 30 January next, at 12 noon, in the Palace of Belém".
