The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited the Douro International National Park, touring for an hour the Miranda do Douro Reservoir on board an ecological boat. The Miranda do Douro Gateway Project – Park Interpretation Centre was presented on the occasion.
Cavaco Silva then went to the Juncal area, in Mogadouro, where a buffet lunch was served in a picnic park next to the Douro river. The area was accessed through Peredo de Bemposta village.
After lunch the President of the Republic and his retinue departed to Penedo Durão, in Freixo de Espada à Cinta, where they visited the panoramic viewing site over the River Douro and the Saucelle Reservoir.
The day ended with a visit to the Santa Maria da Feira Reservoir, in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. Officials of the Institute for Nature Conservation and Biodiversity took the opportunity to present the main projects for nature conservation currently being developed.
