President Cavaco Silva wishes Timorese President José Ramos Horta a quick recovery

The President of the Republic sent the President of East Timor, José Ramos Horta, convalescing in a hospital in Darwin, Australia, a message wishing him a quick recovery, which was delivered by two officers of the National Republican Guard.

Following is the text of the message sent by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, which was delivered by Major Chaplain Joaquim Martins and by Captain João Duque Martinho, commander of the Sub-Group Bravo of GNR, on detachment in East Timor:

"I have been kept informed of your recovery from the attempt of which you were a victim and give thanks to God for the improvement in your state of health. I hope you may make an early return to Timor and reassume your office as Head of State.

I am also sending you, dear friend, a small contribution towards your spirit and for the pleasure of your palate: a 1949 Port (the year of your birth) and Belém cream pastries.

A fond embrace

Aníbal Cavaco Silva"
