Near the River Jordan
In line with the arrangements for their official visit to Jordan, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited, in the environs of Amman, near the River Jordan, the site where Jesus Christ was baptized.
The River Jordan is the natural dividing line between Jordan and the State of Israel. The fountain which is named after St. John the Baptist is on its shores, this being the site recalled in history where Jesus Christ was baptized. The site contains support structures for visitors.
The Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, 402 metres below sea level, was also included in this visit.
