Supreme National Defence Council meeting

Meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defence

The Supreme Council for National Defence held a special meeting, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic. 

At the end of the meeting, which was held in the Palace of Belém, a communiqué was read by the Secretary of the Council, General João Goulão de Melo.

Following is the text of the communiqué:

"A special meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defence was held today to discuss the Government’s proposal concerning the assignment of an Air Force Detachment, consisting of a C 130 aircraft and a force numbering approximately thirty, to be a part of a humanitarian mission during two months, to aid the Darfur refugees, in Chad and in the Central African Republic. 

The Council was favourable towards this humanitarian mission, in the proposed terms and conditions, and took the opportunity to analyze the situation of the several Forces currently in service in other territories. "
