President Cavaco Silva congratulates author Mário Cláudio for the Grand Prize for Romance and Novel

The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to author Mário Cláudio for having been awarded the Grand Prize for Romance and Novel by the Association of Portuguese Authors

Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:

“I very sincerely congratulate author Mário Cláudio, who has just been distinguished by the Association of Portuguese Authors with the Grand Prize for Romance and Novel for his latest work, “Picture of a Boy”.

Author of an extensive and innovatory work, which embraces several literary genres, Mário Cláudio has been a renowned name for a long while, whose talent has been severally recognized and has been awarded prizes by many prestigious institutions.

Endowed with great originality, his work reveals a deep knowledge of Portuguese culture, frequently dialoguing with other major 20th century artists, such as Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Rosa Ramalho, Guilhermina Suggia or Júlio Pomar.

For this reason I want, on behalf of the Portuguese People and in my own personal name, to congratulate Mário Cláudio for this further prize, which reasserts the importance of his work in contemporary literature.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
