The President of the Republic sent a message of congratulations to Italy’s President-Elect Sergio Mattarella.
Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:
“Mister President-Elect,
Upon Your Excellency’s election as President of the Republic of Italy, I hasten to address you, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and sincere wishes in the exercise of the high office you have been entrusted with.
Joined by a strong and historical friendship, I am certain that, both bilaterally and within our European partnership, Portugal and Italy will continue to take advantage of the much that brings us together. Our action will be that of reinforcing still further the relations between our peoples and countries, thus facing with ambition and confidence the challenges and opportunities of the future.
I beg you to accept, Mister President-Elect, our sincere wishes for Your Excellency’s personal well-being and for the prosperity and progress of the people of the Republic of Italy.
