The President of the Republic addressed a message to the President of the Republic of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos, on the occasion of the Angolan National Day.
Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco silva:
“Mister President, Dear Friend,
On the occasion of the celebrations of the National Day of Angola, I am particularly pleased to address Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and our most sincere wishes for the prosperity of the fraternal People of Angola.
Relations between our two countries are indeed very special, a result of the continued strength of the bonds of friendship and cooperation that bring us together. Our relationship, structured both at the level of our citizens and companies and politically and diplomatically as well, has been reciprocally beneficial. It is necessary that our two countries continue making use of our mutual trust and respect in order to develop ever closer and intense relations. We maintain the firm conviction that this is the path that better answers the interest and feelings of our peoples.
On this occasion of special joy for the People of Angola, I reiterate with Your Excellency, Mister President, my personal drive towards the continued deepening of our relationship, renewing my congratulations and begging you to accept my highest regards and personal esteem.
