The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Prof. Doctor José Enes, founder and first Chancellor of the University of the Azores.
Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:
“It was with great regret that I received the news of the passing away of Prof. Doctor José Enes, an outstanding figure of the Portuguese Academic world in the latter decades.
Master of several generations of students in the area of the humanities, José Enes was distinguished by the originality and deepness of his philosophical work, as well as his role in the foundation of the University of the Azores, of which he was the first Chancellor.
On behalf of the Portuguese and in my own personal name, I address the bereaved Family our deepest condolences.
