On the occasion of Your Excellency’s election as President of the Republic of Cyprus, I wish to address you, on behalf of the Portuguese People and in my own name, warm congratulations and wishes for success in the exercise of the high office duties to which you have been called upon to perform.

I am certain that, during Your Excellency’s mandate, the efforts undertaken within the framework of the United Nations, towards a common understanding of the issue of the reunification of Cyprus will be further continued and strengthened.
