The President of the Republic addressed a congratulatory message to the Portuguese participants in the International Mathematics Olympiad, held in the Argentine.
Following is the text of the message sent by President Cavaco Silva:
“One year ago, Miguel Santos, a young Portuguese student from Alcanena Secondary School became the first Portuguese student to conquer a Gold Medal in the International Mathematics Olympiad. And this year he repeated the feat, obtaining the same distinction in the Argentine
The Portuguese participating team, which was the youngest ever, also conquered, in addition to the gold medal, a silver medal, two bronze medals and an honourable mention, reasserting the merit and the excellent work that students, teachers and families developed with the objective of achieving the best possible results.
I warmly congratulate this team, the Portuguese Society of Mathematics and the individuals responsible for the Delphos Project, as well as all those who once again contributed towards this success that brings great pride to us all.
To all I wish continuing success and that they may always achieve due recognition for the effort and merit in pursuance of objectives worthy of the best.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
