President addressed condolences to the Family of José Niza

The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of composer José Niza.

Following is the text of the message of President Anibal Cavaco Silva:

“On behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name I wish to address our deepest condolences to the family of José Niza.

Well known by all Portuguese for his numerous successful musical numbers, he was the author of “E depois do Adeus” (“And after Farewell”), a tune that will for ever be associated to the beginning of 25th of April Revolution, But José Niza was also a physician, a member of Parliament and director of programmes in the national TC channel (RTP), a path that clearly shows the relevance that the composer gave to civic participation.

At this moment of mourning, it is with deepest regret that I render tribute to a man of Culture.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
