The President of the Republic addressed a message to the President of the Federal Republic of Brazil on the occasion of Brazil’s National Day.
Following is the text of the message addressed by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
“Madam President and Dear Friend,
On the occasion of the celebrations of the National Day of Brazil I am very pleased to address Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations, as well as our wishes for the continued progress and prosperity for the fraternal People of Brazil.
Joined by particularly friendly bonds, based upon a common History and Language, our two countries have known how to build a strategically valuable relationship that asserts itself, today, on the most varied activities and on the coherency of positions in the international organizations in which both Portugal and Brazil are members. A relationship that equally expresses itself in the dynamics of the interchange between the structures of our civil societies, which is a reflection of the proximity and affinity of both our Peoples. On the day in which the birth of the great Brazilian nation is celebrated I wish to renew to Your Excellency Portugal’s firm endeavour on the continued strengthening of our partnership, certain that this is the means that better correspond to the expectations and interests of both our Peoples and Countries.
While renewing my congratulations and hoping for an early occasion to again meet with Your Excellency, I beg you to accept, Madam President and my dear Friend, my very best regards and personal esteem.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
