President Cavaco Silva addressed condolences to the Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on the passing away of former Brazilian President Itamar Franco
The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the President of the Federal Republic of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, on the passing away of the former Brazilian President Itamar Franco.
Following is the text of the message of condolences from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
“Upon being advised of the sad news of the passing away of the former Brazilian President, Itamar Franco, I want, on behalf of the people of Portugal and in my own personal name, to address Your Excellency, the bereaved family and to all the people of Brazil our very deepest regrets.
Senator and former President Itamar Franco will be remembered by all as one of the most outstanding figures of his generation, a man of virtues and convictions, with a public life dedicated to the defence of the values of democracy, of justice and of the economic and social progress of the people of Brazil. His legacy also includes an inestimable contribution for the deepening of the relations between Portugal and Brazil. The memory of his humane qualities and of his sincere friendship for our country remains very alive amongst us.
