President of the Republic congratulates medal winning athletes in the European Canoe Championships

The President of the Republic addressed a congratulatory message to Fernando Pimenta, David Fernandes, João Ribeiro, Emanuel Silva and Teresa Portela, for the gold and bronze medals achieved in the European Canoe Championships, held in Belgrade.
Following is the text of the message addressed by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
"I want to congratulate athletes Fernando Pimenta, João Ribeiro, Emanuel Silva, David Fernandes, for having conquered the gold medal in the 1,000 metre K4 sprint, Teresa Portela for having obtained the bronze medal in the 200 metre K1, João Ribeiro and Emanuel Silva for the bronze medal in the 500 metros K2 sprint and Fernando Pimenta for the bronze medal in the 1,000 metre K1 sprint.
The deed accomplished by these athletes honours national Sports, and this high sports level should be commended, as confirmed by the positions obtained in these European Canoe Championships in Belgrade.
This victory testifies that sports dedication and perseverance is the best path for success and that Portugal confirms its potential for the exploit of various types, becoming a country of growing excellence in sports.
