The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Gérard Castello-Lopes
Following is the text of the message addressed by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
"On behalf of the Portuguese people, in my own personal name and that of my wife’s, I wish to address our heartfelt condolences to the Family of Gérard Castello-Lopes, one of the foremost names in Portuguese culture.
Gérard Castello-Lopes dedicated his life to the image: in the cinema and in photography he always looked towards the perfect moment to be caught, revealing in his work an artistic sensitivity that made him one of the greatest Portuguese photographers of all times.
In this moment of mourning it is with great regret that I render my tribute to Gérard Castello-Lopes, a “poet of the image”, who will remain in the memory of all those who followed a life’s career dedicated to photography and the cinema.
