The President of the Republic sent a congratulatory message to the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza, upon his re-election to office.
Following is the text of the congratulatory message from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
“Mister President and dear Friend
At the time when the re-election of Your Excellency to the Presidency of the Republic of Mozambique is so expressively confirmed, I want to send you, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and votes of success in the exalted charges that Your Excellency has once again been called to perform by the People of Mozambique.
These elections have been an eloquent demonstration of the civic spirit of the People of Mozambique and their appeal for democracy, as well as a sign of the hope deposited in the future of the Country.
I am convinced, Mister President, that the excellent relations now existing between us, based upon bonds of strong and very special friendship which link our two Peoples will find, in the course of this your new mandate, increased opportunities for being deepened and developed, both bilaterally and in the area of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Counties (CPLP).
Renewing my congratulations, I beg you to accept, Mister President and dear Friend, my wishes for Your Excellency’s personal well being and for the prosperity and progress of the fraternal People of Mozambique.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
