Message of condolences from the President of the Republic upon the decease of the President of the Republic of Zambia

Upon being advised of the decease of Dr. Levy Mwanawasa, President of the Republic of Zambia, the President of the Republic addressed the following message of condolences to the Vice-President of that Country.

Following is the text of the message:

"Mister Vice-President,

I was deeply shocked when told of the decease of the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Levy Mwanawasa, one of the more relevant figures in the contemporary African political panorama. President Mwanawasa will forever be remembered for his action in the growing development of his Country, along with his fight for the values of Democracy and respect for Human Rights in the African Continent.

In this hour of pain I wish to address Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our feelings of deepest regret, requesting that you transmit to the family in mourning our very deepest condolences.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva"
