Message from the President of the Republic addressed to the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Mister President,

I was deeply distressed with the news of the tragic attempt perpetrated yesterday evening against a defenceless crowd in Karachi, deserving of our utmost condemnation and rejection.

We are once again facing a deplorable terrorist act which must not diminish our determination in the building of a world of peace, freedom and democracy, based upon a confluent dialogue between cultures and civilizations.

In this hour of suffering and mourning I wish to express to Your Excellency and to the families of the victims of this attempt, on behalf of the people of Portugal and in my own name, our deepest feelings of grief and friendship.
