Congratulatory message for the achievement of the Portuguese athletes who took part in the World Summer Games of the Special Olympics, in Shanghai

I am very pleased to congratulate the Portuguese athletes that so reputedly represented our country in the World Summer Games of the Special Olympics.

As I mentioned to the athletes when I received them in the Palace of Belém on the eve of their departure, the enthusiasm and determination in overcoming difficulties by those who have the will to go further, must be emphasized.

May these personal successes in sports activities serve as an example to those who, in similar conditions, have at times little belief in their capabilities. It now stands proven that there are no barriers for those that pursue their dreams.

In my own name and on behalf of all the Portuguese, I renew my congratulations and hope that the future continues bringing this extraordinary group their personal success and great achievements in their sports activities.
