The Presidency of the Republic publishes the following communiqué:
“In the terms of item h) of article no. 133 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic accepted the resignation, endorsed by the Prime Minister, of Dr. Joaquin Pais Jorge from the office of Secretary of State of the Treasury.”
In the terms of §1 of article no. 41 of the Law governing the Portuguese Honourable Orders (Law no. 5/2011, dated 2 March), the President of the Republic appointed as Chancellor of the Orders of Civil Merit Prof. Doctor Luis Francisco Valente de Oliveira, replacing the recently diseased Ambassador António de Oliveira Pinto da França.
Visit to Vila Real County
The President of the Republic visited the Campeã Parish Social Centre, in the County of Vila Real, where he attended an exhibition of handicrafts produced by the Centre’s users.
New cultural equipment
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act of the Mondim de Basto Municipal Library, as programmed for the visit carried out to this county in Vila Real District.
Military exercises in Murça
President Cavaco Silva visited the Dragon 13 & Pristina 132 Military Exercises, carried out by the Army, in Murça, district of Vila Real, and presided at the presentation of the National Standard to the 2nd Infantry Battalion, which will leave for Kosovo next September, comprising United Nations forces.
Dinner in the Cidadela Palace in Cascais
On the occasion of the State Visit to Portugal of the President of the Republic of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli and Mrs. Marta Linares de Martinelli, the President of the Republic and Mrs, Cavaco Silva hi«hosted a dinner in the Cascais Cidadela Palace, at the beginning of which speeches were delivered by both President Cavaco Silva and his Panamanian counterpart.
Ambassador Paulo Cunha Alves
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the new Portuguese Ambassador in Canberra, Paulo Cunha Alves, whom he decorated with the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit.
President Ricardo Martinelli received in Belém
In the beginning of the State Visit he is carrying out in Portugal, the President of the Republic of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, held a meeting, in the Palace of Belém, with President Cavaco Silva.
