Awarding ceremony
The President of the Republic honoured two Diaspora entrepreneurs, John G. Melo and José Maria Marshall de Barros Lima Ivo, whom he decorated with the grade of Grand Officer of the Order of Entrepreneurial Merit – Class of Industrial merit.
President received compliments of the Season
The President of the Republic received the Prime Minister and members of the Government who wished him the compliments of the Season.
Meeting in Cascais Citadel
The President of the Republic attended the closure of the Annual meeting of the Council of the Portuguese Diaspora, which brought together, in the Citadel Palace, in Cascais, a large number of councillors from the several continents and political, economic and entrepreneurial individualities.
Meeting with the Justice Minister
In the terms of the Constitution and of the legislation in force, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice to consider the granting of pardons, a tradition in this season of the year.
Meeting in Belém
The President of the Republic received Artur Alves, Horácio Costa and José Pinheiro, the three Póvoa de Varzim Council employees who returned a large amount of many and other valuables, found in an eco-centre waste separator.
José Maria Neves received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Dr. José Maria Neves.
António Costa received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the leader of the Socialist Party, Dr. António Costa, and a delegation from that same Party.
Parliamentary delegation in Belém
President Cavaco Silva received the Speaker, the Deputy Speakers, the Leaders of the Parliamentary Political Groups and the members of the Parliamentary Board, who wished him the Season’s Greetings.
Meeting in Belém
The Supreme Council for National Defence held an ordinary meeting chaired by the President of the Republic.
At the end of the meeting, which took place in the Palace of Belém, the following Communiqué was issue:

The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva celebrated the opening of the Christmas decorations in the Palace of Belém in the presence of primary school children from local community educational centres.
