Speech in the regional legislative body
Continuing his official visit to the Azores Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic was the guest of honour at a Solemn Ceremony in the Azores Parliament, in Horta, during which speeches were delivered by the Representatives of the Parliamentary Groups (CDS-PP, PSD and PS) and by the Speaker, following which the President of the Republic also addressed an allusive speech.
On board the oceanographic ship
In the port of Horta, the President of the Republic boarded the oceanographic ship of the Portuguese Navy "Almirante Gago Coutinho", where a presentation was made on the activities of the Hydrographical Institute and the studies relating to the Extension of the Continental Shelf. At the same time the President was shown the ship’s operational systems and scientific equipment.
Research in oceanography and fisheries
In the third campaign of the Route to Science, dedicated to Sciences and Technologies of the Sea, which was based in the city of Horta, the President of the Republic visited the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of Azores University, with special regard to the Laboratories of Exo-Toxicology, Molecular Biology, LabHorta and Oceanography, and also the Centre of Virtual Marine Interpretation.
Event in the Faialense Theatre
A remembrance ceremony of the 50th Anniversary of the eruption of the “Capelinhos” Volcano, which took place in the Faialense Theatre, was attended by the President of the Republic. This included the first hearing of a musical piece in tribute to the volcano, composed by Maestro Eurico Carrapatoso and played by the Horta Classical Orchestra, as well as a historical documentary on the eruption, produced by RTP-Azores (TV Broadcasting Station).
50th anniversary of the volcano
In remembrance of the 50th Anniversary of the “Capelinhos” eruption, the President of the Republic flew over the volcano in Faial Island and, once landed, observed the volcanic formations caused by the eruption.
Visits to UNESCO classified heritage
On the second day of his official visit to the Azores Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic visited the protected area of Pico Island Vineyard Culture, classified by UNESCO as world cultural heritage.
Dinner in Angra
At the end of the first day of his official visit to the Azores, the President of the Republic attended a dinner in Madre de Deus Manor, Angra do Heroísmo, which was held in his honour by the Representative of the Republic for the Autonomous Region.
Meeting in Madre de Deus
In the course of his visit to the Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic held a meeting, in Angra do Heroísmo, with the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Carlos César.
Visit to Angra
Continuing his visit to the Azores, the President of the Republic visited the monument in memory of King D. Pedro IV, from which he visualized the landscape over the city of Angra do Heroísmo.
Meeting in Angra City Council
In the first stages of his official five day visit the President of the Republic met, in Angra do Heroísmo, with the Mayors of the Municipalities of the Azores Autonomous Region.
