Exhibition in Santarém
Extra to his participation in the commemoration of the National Day of Portugal, in Santarém, the President of the Republic visited the National Agricultural Fair, which was being held in the National Exhibition Centre (CNEMA).
Luncheon in Casa da Alcáçova
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva hosted luncheon in Casa da Alcáçova, Santarém, in honour of individualities considered as outstanding in their professional activities both in Portugal and abroad.
Ceremonial Session
The President of the Republic received the Gold Medal of the City of Santarém, in a Welcoming Ceremony held in the Main Hall of the County Council Building. An allusive plaque was unveiled to signal the event.
Through the streets of Santarém
In the beginning of the programme of the commemorations of the National Day of Portugal, of Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which this year are being held in Santarém, the President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act, in the city’s Cathedral, of the Exhibition “Portugal 12.21 - Identity”, organized by the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic.
The President of the Republic decided not to enact the Parliamentary decree altering the Law that governs the funding of political parties and electoral campaigns.
Regarding this decision, the Presidency of the Republic publishes the following communiqué:

After receiving, to be enacted as law, Parliamentary Decree No. 285/X, altering Law No. 19/2003, dated 20 June, which governs the rules applicable to the financing of political parties and electoral campaigns, I have decided, in the terms of article No. 136 of the Constitution, not to enact that legislation, with the following bases:
Festive reception in the city
The President of the Republic arrived in Santarém to initiate, in this city, the programme of the commemorations of the National Day of Portugal, of Camões and the Portuguese Communities.
With the prize winners
The President of the Republic took part, in Belém Cultural Centre, Lisbon, in the Award Ceremony of the COTEC Prize for Entrepreneurial Innovation in the Portuguese Diaspora, attributed this year in equal terms to two winners.
Audience in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, a deputation of the Legislative assembly of the Azores Autonomous Region, headed by its Speaker, Dr. Francisco Coelho Lopes Cabral.
Audience to the former Head of the Japanese Government
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the former Prime Minister of Japan, Junichiro Koizumi.
