2009 Prize awarded in Jerónimos Monastery
The President of the Republic attended, in the Jerónimos Monastery, in Lisbon, the award ceremony of the António Champalimaud 2009 Prize for Vision to the Helen Keller International institution, where he delivered a speech.

The President of the Republic enacted on this date as Law, Parliamentary Decree No. 362/X, which approves the Legislative Code of the Contributory Regimes to the Provident Systems of Social Security.
Inaugural act of Foundation
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act of the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation, in Querença, county of Loulé, where he unveiled an allusive plaque.
The President of the Republic decided, in the terms of article No. 136 of the Constitution, not to enact Parliamentary Decree No. 349/X, which introduces the first alteration to Law No. 7/2001, dated 11 May (concubinage), and returned that bill to Parliament today.

Having received for enactment Parliamentary Decree No. 349/X, which introduces the first alteration to Law No. 7/2001, dated 11 May, I have decided, in the terms of Article No. 136 of the Constitution, not to enact that bill, based upon the following premises:
President in Viseu
The President of the Republic presided at the opening of the 617th edition of the S. Mateus Fair, in Viseu, which will be open to the public until 21 September.
Chapel of Our Lady of Hope
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act of the refurbishment work carried out in the Chapel of Our Lady of Hope, in Abrunhosa, County of Sátão.
The President of the Republic requested today from the Constitutional Court the preventive supervision of the constitutionality of the provisions of item b) of Para. 6 of Article No. 14 of Parliamentary Decree No.366/X, which approves the new Law for the Execution of Prison Sentences.
In the streets of Redondo
The President of the Republic visited Redondo, was welcomed in the Town Hall and later walked round the garlanded streets of the Alentejo town.
