The President of the Republic pays a visit to Madrid, on 27 and 28 October instant, where, as Chairman of the General Meeting of COTEC Portugal, he will preside, jointly with the King of Spain and the President of the Republic of Italy, at the closing Ceremony of the V COTEC Europe Meeting.
The President of the Republic received in audience, today, the Prime Minister designate, Eng. José Sócrates, and gave his agreement to the proposal for the composition of the new Constitutional Government, with respect to Ministers and Secretary of State of the Council of Ministers.
Judge Councillor Manuel Fernando dos Santos Serra received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, Judge Councillor Manuel Fernando dos Santos Serra.
Exhibition in Luz Hospital, in Lisbon
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited, in Luz Hospital, an exhibition of watercolour paintings by Eng. António Cavaco Silva, which had been named “Luz Landscapes".
The President of the Republic appraised 1817 bills since he took office, on 9 March 2006, until the end of the 10th Legislature. Of the total 1817 gills appraised, 1799 were enacted, 324 of which approved by Parliament and the remaining 1475 by the Government.
Decoration Ceremony
The President of the Republic decorated with the grade of Grand Officer of the Military Order of Aviz, Air Force Colonel Eurico Craveiro, who is relinquishing his duties as the President’s Consultant for Military Affairs in order to take up the command of No. 5 Air Base, in Monte Real.
Lyceum’s 100th Anniversary
The President of the Republic attended the commemorative ceremony celebrating the centenary of Camões Lyceum, in Lisbon, where he made an address.

The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Credit Ombudsman, Dr. João Amaral Tomaz.

Appointment at audience in Belém
After hearing the partiesd with Parliamentary representation and considering the results of the Parliamentary Elections held on 27 September, the President of the Republic appointed today the Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Eng. José Sócrates Carvalho Pinto de Sousa, to the office of Prime Minister.
