Funds intended for social solidarity
The President of the Republic attended the prize award dinner of the 9th edition of the “Portugal Solidarity” Golf Tournament, of which he is the Patron and which, since the beginning of the initiative, has attributed almost half a million euros to social solidarity institutions.
This year, the Tournament’s promoters and organizers obtained, from the participating companies, the record amount of 75,000 euros, which is intended for a surgical microscope for the cochlear implant unit of the D. Estefânia Paediatric Hospital, in Lisbon, through the “CrescerBem”l Association.
In the prize award ceremony, held in Salgados Palace Hotel, in Albufeira, President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva handed this year’s revenue to Dr. José Ezequiel Barros, Head of the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinical Services of D. Estefânia Hospital.
The following institutions benefited from the funds obtained since 2007: CerciGrândola, Portuguese Association for Aid to Women with Breast Cancer, Portuguese Diabetic Association, Humanitarian Association of Parkinson and Alzheimer Diseased Persons, APATRIS 21 – Association of Algarve Bearers of Down Syndrome, Cardiology Service of Santa Cruz Hospital, in Lisbon, CEDEMA – Association of Parents and Friends of Mentally Deficient Adults, and “Existir” Association, of Loulé.
The total funds obtained in the nine editions of the Tournament amounted to 478,000 euros.
