Meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defence

The Supreme Council for National Defence held an ordinary meeting presided by the President of the Republic.

At the end of the meeting, that took place in the Palace of Belém, a communiqué was read by the Secretary to the Council, General João Goulão de Melo.

Following is the text of the communiqué:

“The Supreme Council for National Defence held an ordinary meeting, dealt with administrative matters within its competence, after which the Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff reported on the evolution of the situation of the military Contingents on missions abroad.

The Council analysed and gave a favourable view to a Government proposal to change the constitution and several missions of the national Detachment included in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), in Afghanistan, which would, from June onwards, participate with a Detail in the security of Kabul Airport”.
