Conference n the Champalimaud Foundation
The President of the Republic opened, in Lisbon, the international conference “Portugal in the European and Worldwide Balance of Power”, which launched a debate on the current and future Portuguese relations with various Worldwide regions, comprised in the Routes to the Future Iinitiative, and in which took part national and international individualities.
The meeting, held during ne day in the Champalimaud Foundation, was started by a speech addressed by its Chairman, followed by addresses by the Commissioner of the Routes to the Future Initiative, João Lobo Antunes and by the President of the Republic, and was opened with a lecture by Francisco Bethencourt, a Portuguese lecturer in King’s College, London.
In the morning session, covering the Atlantic Route theme, speakers included the Portuguese Rui Machete, Luis Amado, António Monteiro and Nuno Mota Pinto, the latter an Assistant Executive Manager of the World Bank, as well as Kenneth Maxwell, lecturer in Harvard University, United States of America, and Francis Kornegay, researcher with the University of South Africa, in Pretoria.
