Gomes Freire Redoubt
The President of the Republic visited, in Oeiras, the Joint Command for Military Operations (CCOM), a body of the Armed Forces General Staff, recently transferred from Lisbon.
During the visit, President Cavaco Silva attended a briefing in the CCOM Operations Room, and later viewed the several facilities of the Joint Command, namely the command planning rooms and the decision rooms of the General Staff of the Quick Reaction Forces (FRI) and of the Special Operations Component.
The President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces was accompanied on this visit by the Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff (CEMGFA), by the Secretary of State for National Defence, and by the Naval, Army and Air Force Chiefs of General Staff.
Located in the Gomes Freire Redoubt, in the former facilities of the NATO Lisbon Joint Allied Command, the CCOM’s mission is to ensure the exercise, by the CEMGFA, of the operational command of the forces and means of the operational component of the three branches of the Armed Forces.
