Supreme Council for National Defence Meeting
The Supreme Council for National Defence held an extraordinary meeting, chaired by the President of the Republic.
At the end of the meeting, which took place in the Palace of Belém, the following Communiqué was issued:
“The Supreme Council of National defence held an extraordinary meeting to discuss three proposals from the Government, relative to preparation, training and activity in NATO military operations.
1. The first, regarding the stationing and the set-up of an operational base in Romania, of four F-16 aircraft, within the scope of NATO tranquilizing measures.
2. The second proposal, concerning a NATO major exercise, to be held in Portugal as host country, in the last quarter of 2015, involving significant means from the three branches of the Portuguese Armed Forces and, at the moment, of 13 Alliance countries.
3. The third proposal, equally within the scope of the readying of the NATO Response Forces, concerns the deployment of a Mechanized Infantry Battalion in command post and real military exercises, in 2016.
The Council gave a favourable view on these three proposals”
