Arouca Meteorological Radar
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural ac, in Arouca, of the North Portugal Meteorological Radar, the most modern facility in the network of the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere.
During a visit to the tower where the radar is installed, on the top of Freita Hill, President Cavaco Silva examined the technical unit of the new equipment – its operation being explained to him – and the 360° view afforded from the glass enclosed floor level over a distance of many dozens of kilometres.
Before this, in the neighbouring village of Castanheiro, the President visited the “Pedras Parideiras” (Pregnant Stones) House, where the interpretation centre of this geological phenomenon is located, comprised in the Arouca Geological Park.
