The President of the Republic will honour the national Table Tennis team which was recently awarded the title of European champion, the first time ever that a Portuguese team received an international title in this sport.
The Table Tennis team, which comprises several highly classified athletes in world rankings, and which has lately been asserting itself collectively, won the European tournament, held in Portugal. Its organization received international praise.
President Cavaco Silva will honour athletes Marco Freitas, Tiago Apolónia, João Monteiro, João Geraldo and Diogo Chen with the grade of Commander of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator and both the team manager, Pedro Rufino and the President of the Portuguese Table Tennis Federation, Pedro Moura, with the grade of Officer of the Order of Merit.
The decoration ceremony will be held in the Palace of Belém on 1 December next, at 15:30 hours.
