Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon
The President of the Republic presided, in Lisbon, to the National Tribute to the Fallen in World War I, commemorating the centenary of the conflict that involved the greater part of European nations and which had sequels in many continents.
Next to the monument that evokes the Portuguese soldiers fallen in combat, in Avenida da Liberdade, President Cavaco Silva laid a wreath, addressed a message and unveiled a commemorative plaque symbolizing the centenary.
In all the districts’ capital cities, at the same time, identical ceremonies were held, to commemorate the centenary of World War I, and in which the President of the Republic’s message was read.
