President Cavaco Silva congratulated European Table Tennis champions

The President of the Republic congratulated the National Table Tennis Team upon having conquered the title of European Champion in the tournament held in Lisbon.

Following is the text of the message sent by President Cavaco Silva:

“I am very proud to congratulate the National Table Tennis Team on having won the European Championship, in the tournament held in Lisbon, the first time a Portuguese team achieves such a success in this sports activity.

This is a goal that honours Portuguese sports.

Both players and technical team saw their efforts rewarded and are to be congratulated for having trusted their capabilities and their capacity for winning and for having brought dignity to national sports activities, providing a further motive of pride to the followers of this sport and to the Portuguese in general.

I equally congratulate the Portuguese Table Tennis Federation for the organization of this European Championship in Portugal.

Having formerly practised this sport, I address the players, technical team and the Portuguese Table Tennis Federation a special word of appreciation for the dedication and drive they have shown, and my very best wishes for their personal and sports success.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
