CSDN met in the Palace of Belém
A regular meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defence was held, chaired by the President of the Republic.
At the end of the meeting, which was held in the Palace of Belém, a statement was read by the Secretary to the Council, General João Goulão de Melo, as follows:
"The Supreme Council for National Defence held its regular meeting, and analyzed the main issues of the programme of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union, within the area of National Defence.
The council also analyzed the situation of the National Forces currently posted in external peace missions, within the framework of the International Organizations of which the Country is a member. With regard to the Mission in Afghanistan, the Council agreed with the Government’s proposal to extend the current national military participation for a six month period, until August 2008, of a Team numbering approximately 15 members, to support the training of the Afghan Army."
