Decoration ceremony
The President of the Republic held an encounter, in Toronto, with the Portuguese Community in Canada, during which he delivered a speech, decorated individualities and institutions, attended a concert and hosted a reception.
President Cavaco Silva’s entrance in the Winter Garden Theatre, where the encounter was held, was welcomed by a performance of the Luso-Canadian University Band (Luso-Can Tuna).
The President’s speech was addressed to the Community in Canada, after which he decorated singer Nelly Furtado, university lecturer Ana Paula Lopes, banker Duarte Manuel Ponte Miranda, entrepreneurs Emanuel Linhares and Manuel Augusto da Costa, bank manager Ana Ochôa Baptista, the Luso-Can Tuna and the Luso-Canadian Charitable Society.
Following this, singer António Zambujo performed a concert, in which he was accompanied by singer Nelly Furtado. Later, the President of the Republic contacted socially with several hundred Portuguese and Luso-Descendants who attended the encounter in the Toronto theatre.
