Planting trees
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited the Tropical Botanical Garden, in Lisbon, where they planted two trees on the day marking the 100th anniversary of the plantation of trees in the Garden by the first President of the Republic, Manuel Arriaga and his Wife.
Plantation of a tree genus “Sapindus mukorossi” and another genus “Ceiba insignis”, by the President and by Mrs. Cavaco Silva, respectively, was witnessed by children of a Lisbon school.
Following this, the President of the Republic signed and sealed the full Post Office Card allusive to the commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the Institute for the Research of Tropical Science, the managing body of the Tropical Botanical Garden.
Later, in the Palace of the Counts of Calheta, President Cavaco Silva visited the African exhibition of Eduardo Nery’s collection.
