Meeting with Indonesian President
The President of the Republic had a meeting with his counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, at the beginning of a State Visit that is being held in Indonesia, the first of a Portuguese Head of State to this Country.
Received at Jakarta Airport by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marty M. Natalegawa, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva immediately left for Istana Merdeka Palace, where he was welcomed by President Susilo and received military honours.
After an initial meeting between the two Presidents, together with Mrs. Cavaco Silva and Mrs. Ani Bambang Yudhoyono, a meeting was held between both countries’ delegations, at the end of which the Portuguese and Indonesian Ministers of Foreign Affairs signed three bilateral agreements, and was then followed by statements to the media.
In the evening, the Indonesian President hosted a State Banquet in the honour of his Portuguese counterpart, held at Istana Merdeka Palace, during which both Heads of State delivered speeches, and which were followed by a performance of music and dances from various Indonesian regions.
