Soma-Fukushima youngsters
The President of the Republic received a group of 24 young Japanese students from the area of Soma Fukushima, in north-eastern Japan, smitten by the earthquake and the tsunami that followed, in March 2011, who are holding a visit to Portugal, within the scope of an initiative of educational and cultural interchange.
Accompanied by teachers and representatives of Japanese NGOs, the young students visited the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic.
Following this, the students were received by President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva in the Palace of Belém.
At the sound of the Soma-Nagareyama music, a song which dates back to the 14th century and was traditionally sung by the samurais, the students performed the traditional Dance of Soma, province of Fukushima, in Japan.
