Opening Ceremony
The President of the Republic presided, in the city of Guimarães, at the opening of the 2012 European Capital of Culture.
At the event’s inaugural ceremony, which included the performance of the Orchestra Studio Foundation and of several artists from the Portuguese speaking world, under the theme “Our Affections”, speeches were delivered by various individualities, amongst which the President of the Republic.
Later, in Toural Square, where a commemorative dinner was also held, the show “Time for Encounters” was performed. After this, and still in the Guimarães historical centre, the President of the Republic visited the Alberto Sampaio Museum, where several objects of the respective collection, National Treasures, are on view.
