The Presidency of the Republic publishes the following communiqué:
“One of today’s daily newspapers asserts, on its first page, that ‘Cavaco delays privatizations of EDP and REN’ and refers, in the text of the news item that ‘the bill authorizing the privatizations arrived in Belém two weeks ago and the President of the Republic is delaying their enactment’.
Concerning this, the Presidency of the Republic states:
a) The minutes of the Bills that approve the 2nd stage of the privatization of REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais, SGPS, S.A, (77/11) and the 8th stage of the privatization of EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. (78/11) were received in the Presidency of the Republic on 7 October instant.
b) The President of the Republic, in the terms of the Constitution, disposes of a period of 40 days to analyse Governmental bills and to take a decision on whether to enact them or not.”
