The President of the Republic will be in Italy on 12 and 13 October, to voice his opinion on the current moment in Europe and to attend the annual meeting of COTEC Europa.
On 12 October President Cavaco Silva will deliver an address on the current European situation at the European University Institute in Florence (EUI), within the framework of the “Debating Europe” conference cycle, thus responding to the invitation of the Institute’s President, Josep Borrell Fontelles.
This EUI initiative aims to promote discussion over the European integration process and the challenges being faced by contemporary European society. The President of the Republic will also be meeting the Institute’s Portuguese academic community.
On the second day the President of the Republic travels to Genoa to attend the VII Meeting of COTEC Europa, together with the King of Spain, Dom Juan Carlos, and the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano.
The COTEC Europa meetings are annually organized by COTEC Portugal and by its counterparts in Spain and Italy, under the High Sponsorship of the respective Heads of State. The topic of the current edition is the measures to be adopted to strengthen the liaison between research, technological development and innovation in the productive systems in Portugal, Spain and Italy and at European level.
