At the start of the programme of the day of his empowerment for a second mandate, the President of the Republic earmarked the relevance of the so called Sea Agenda for Portugal, reasserting his commitment to it, by visiting the hydro oceanographic ship "Almirante Gago Coutinho", moored at the Alcântara Dock in Lisbon.
Used in marine scientific research, the "Almirante Gago Coutinho" has taken part in the survey of the Portuguese continental marine platform, and is equipped with modern sub-aquatic exploration technology.
Upon landing from the ship, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva viewed on the dock a presentation of the capabilities of the sophisticated crewless deep sea submarine vessel "Luso", which normally operates from the "Almirante Gago Coutinho".
