Prof. Aníbal Cavaco Silva will be empowered in office for his second mandate as President of the Republic on 9 March instant, during a Solemn Ceremony to be held in Parliament at 15:30 hours.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic will carry out, starting at 11:45 hours, a visit to the hydro-oceanographic ship “NRP Almirante Gago Coutinho”, moored at Alcântara Dock, in Lisbon, where a presentation will take place of the technical scientific missions that were the basis of the Project for the Extension of the Portuguese Continental Platform, presented to the UN.
After this visit, the capabilities of the submarine “Luso” will be presented; this is a remotely operated vehicle that has already carried out approximately one hundred diving expeditions to gather scientific information and that allows Portugal to be one of the few countries in the world able to carry out deep ocean exploration.
Later, and still in the Alcântara Docks, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva will board the ship “NRP Sagres”, where he will hold a meeting with approximately fifty young leaders, officers of countrywide student associations and youth organizations with whom he will have lunch.
In Parliament, where he will receive military honours, the President will take his oath of commitment, sign the empowerment minute, deliver an address and receive the greetings of those present in the Solemn Ceremony.
At the end of the ceremonies, the President of the Republic will be driven to the Palace of Belém, where he will be welcomed by his Civil and Military Staff and, by19:00 hours, will host a reception.
