On Monday, 18 October, at 11.30 a.m., in the Palace of Belém, the President of the Republic will pay tribute to the Physicians specialized in Organ Transplants who were judged as outstanding in the research and the exercise of this important branch of Medicine and Surgery in the last few decades, thus singling out Portugal’s primary worldwide position in this activity.
At the ceremony the President of the Republic will impose the insignia of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit to Prof. Doctor Joaquim Murta and to Prof. Doctor Manuel Abecasis and, also the insignia of Commander of the Order of Merit to Prof. Doctor Manuel Teixeira and to Dr. Pedro Pimentel.
On the same occasion tribute will also be paid to Prof. Doctor Alexandre Linhares Furtado, Dr. Eduardo Barroso, Prof. Doctor João Queirós e Melo, Prof. Doctor João Rodrigues Pena, Prof. Doctor Manuel Antunes and Prof. Doctor Mário Caetano Pereira (posthumously), who had already been previously decorated with different degrees of Portuguese Honourable Orders.
