Regarding the audiences that the President of the Republic granted to the representatives of the political parties, the following communiqué is made public:

The President of the Republic received, in audience, the political parties with seats in Parliament, with a view to hearing their opinion as to the current political, economic and social situation and, also, as to the contribution of each of those parties towards facing the difficulties with which the Country is being challenged.

The President of the Republic underlined to all the parties the heavy dependence of the Portuguese economy from external financing, that is sought by the State, by the banking sector and by the economic agents, and equally emphasized the extremely grievous consequences which would result from the occurrence of a political crisis in the current environment, considering the juridical and constitutional framework that currently conditions its resolution.

Respecting the options of each party political force, the President of the Republic appealed that all political parties develop all possible efforts in reaching, with regard to the State Budget for 2011, the understanding they consider necessary to attain the superior national interests.
