After having carried out four campaigns of the Route for Inclusion, the President of the Republic will promote, on April 14 next, in Santarem, a National Conference devoted to the Civic Commitment for Inclusion, where the first results of the initiative will be debated.
The intent of the conference is to reflect upon the themes which were specifically highlighted during the four campaigns of the Route and, simultaneously, to procure public recognition for the accomplishments of the thousands of citizens and institutions which, all over the country, contributed for definite results to be accrued from solidarity and social development.
Themes such as the redirecting of social policies, the social responsibilities of business enterprises, the role of voluntary work and of enterprising institutions, were some of the thoughts which could configure a new approach capable to respond to the foreseeable restraints of the State, and to the enormous potential for development inherent to citizens and benevolent institutions.
The programme of the conference includes the debate on themes such as social exclusion, economic growth and competitiveness, how citizens and institutions can contribute towards inclusion, and those concerning social policies, both in Portugal and in the European Union.
The meeting will be preceded by the opening of an exhibition devoted to the Civic Commitment for Inclusion and the book “Route for Inclusion 2006” will be launched during the day’s activities.
