The President of the Republic is travelling to Angola, accompanied by Mrs. Cavaco Silva, on a State Visit at the invitation of President José Eduardo dos Santos, from the 19th to the 22nd of July, which will be followed on 23 July by the VIII Summit of the Heads of State and of Government of CPLP, which will be held in Luanda.
The Head of State will be accompanied on this visit by the Minister of State and for Foreign Affairs, by the Secretaries of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and for Trade and Consumer Rights, as well as a Parliamentary Deputation.
The programme of the State Visit will include visits to the Provinces of Luanda, Huila and Benguela, where, apart from those to be held with President José Eduardo dos Santos, the President of the Republic will hold meetings with the Speaker of the National Parliament, with local and provincial authorities, with Portuguese communities, and will grant an audience to the leader of the largest opposition Party.
On the first day of the Visit, after the official welcoming ceremonies, the President of the Republic will deliver a speech before the Angolan Parliament which will hold an extraordinary plenary session for the purpose.
On that same day, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva will address the professors and students of Agostinho Neto University, concerning the promotion and international projection of the Portuguese language, emphasizing the importance he attributes to a theme which has also been one of the priorities of the Portuguese Presidency of CPLP.
He will also open an exhibition in the Cultural Centre of the Portuguese Embassy in Angola, entitled “One Road, Two Views”, with photographs by Portuguese national Jordi Burch and texts by the Angolan writer Ondjaki.
The programme of the Visit’s first day will end with a State Banquet hosted by President José Eduardo dos Santos, in honour of the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva.
On July 20, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva and President José Eduardo dos Santos will preside jointly at the inaugural act of a new manufacturing facility of NOVICER, Cerâmicas de Angola, Lda, a construction materials manufacturer with Portuguese and Angolan capital. In the afternoon, the Head of State visits the Luanda International Fair (FILDA), where he will address the Portuguese entrepreneurs present at the exhibition. The Fair will be officially opened on this date which will simultaneously be the Day of Portugal in FILDA. Portugal is this year, the invited country in the Fair.
On 21 and 22 July, the President of the Republic travels to the Provinces of Huila and Benguela where, in addition to contacts to be held with the respective provincial Governors, he will deliver addresses in two entrepreneurial seminars organized by AIP and AICEP, which will take place, respectively, in Lubango and Lobito. In Benguela he will also visit the Teacher’s Training School, where he will meet with Portuguese teachers detached in the provinces of Benguela and Namibe, under cover of the “Know More” programme, within the Portuguese Cooperation Programme..
Continuing on the same day, 22 July, after his return to Luanda, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva will be received in the Angolan Writer’s Union.
In the evening of 22 July, the President of the Republic will attend a dinner hosted by President José Eduardo dos Santos in honour of the CPLP Heads of State and of Government, prior to the beginning of the VIII CPLP Summit, which will be held on 23 July. The Luanda Summit will signal the end of the exercise of the Portuguese Presidency of CPLP and the beginning of the mandate of the Angolan Presidency.
On the occasion of the Visit, a large entrepreneurial deputation will travel to Angola, in a joint initiative of AICEP and the Portuguese Industrial Association-AIP. The programme of this deputation will include participating in some of the events where President Cavaco Silva will be present, specifically the Day of Portugal in FILDA and the entrepreneurial seminars in Lubango and Benguela.
