The President of the Republic received, in the Palace of Belem, fifty 7th and 8th year students from schools in Rio Maior and Praia (Cape Verde), and their respective teachers, who are taking part in a school’s interchange project which involves regular contacts between both groups.
The aim of the project is to create and develop links between the young people of both countries, providing them with sensitivity and teaching them how to cohabit with differences and discover affinities, having the advantage of a common language as an important shared heritage.
The students of the Basic Integrated Marinha do Sal School (Rio Maior) and of Pedro Camões School (Praia – Cape Verde) establish regular contacts, exchange information and joint activities in order to attain a mutual knowledge of cultural, social and educational realities in both countries.
A specific project named “Germination of aromatic plants” is now being jointly developed, which the Rio Maior school (whose students visited Cape Verde in 2006) is putting up for candidacy to the programme “Live Science”.
